Okay, here is my plan on how to get GM to bring the Ute SSV to the US. If a bunch of us Opponauts get sawzalls and things and start turning cars on GM dealerships lots into Utes, maybe they will give us a few just so we stop? Or sell the now Uteified cars for very cheap, which we buy and finish the conversion? Anybody game?

The only thing this plan will give us is Felony charges and jail time (though I assume you're joking here)

Unfortunately, there's no legit path to a new Ute. If we buy them and make our own, GM will (rightfully) ask, "Why should we spend the money going legit with Utes when all our customers make their own anyway?". We could boycott GM, but the non-jalops who just want an american Camry and giant truck car you can't take off road won't, so the cars we like and care about will just wither and die on the vine. We could climb the ranks of GM corporate and just make the call ourselves, but if it were that easy it would have been done by now. Remember; GM is public, which means they are beholden to shareholders and the Board of Directors. If CEO Garrett Harrison says, "I want a ute in the US", the Chairman will ask, "There's almost no market for that. Why should we let you spend $100M federalizing a product with a guaranteed-to-be-shitty ROI?". You could say, "Well, I'm doing it anyway.", but he could say, "You're fired." Which puts you back where you started.

The Baja is as close as we'll ever come to a modern day ute in the US, and even that's gone now.
